I completed GW as a mesmer and a ranger, and my guild got to rank 300 odd in the gvg ladder; i got a bit bored and decided to stop playing for a few months. With the news of the upcoming factions release i decided to return and am now enjoying playing the game as a an elementalist. In the few months i was not playing GW i played World of Warcraft, and in point of comparison between the two games i would say the following (these address the OP)...
1) Lvl Caps: the lvl 60 (soon to be 70) lvl cap in WoW does add an extra challenge; but also adds a huge amount of often unenjoyable grinding, and, when you reach 60, the same problem remains...what to do next.
2) The pvp system (battlegrounds) in WoW has certain advantages. It is easier to gain rank making the pvp experience more available to more players. Although to get the highest ranks is a huge grind ( i made rank 13/14 and couldn't carry on). Also, due to the structure of the game, battlegrounds in WoW are heavily gear dependent, and skill is not always as important as it should be. I think the concept of skills based pvp is a good one; and a-net has done well to try and preserve it. WoW does have much bigger pvp battles (Alterac Valley) than GW at present, but as I understand it new and bigger pvp arenas are going to be introduced.
3) PVE. WoW has several end game instances which are designed to be very difficult, requireing large groups of coordinated players to beat. I think that GW could really benefit from some much tougher end game PVE. To me it seems ridiculous that any class should be able to solo an end game area, such as the UW. I do not blame ppl for trying to do so, they just enjoy the challenge, but there should be some areas that REQUIRE 8 or more ppl to beat. I really hope this is introduced in ch 2.

and after that you have nothing but nothing to do.
month...
if you do it that the only interest in playing is to be better for the next upgrade then the game will eventually die
|
you play the game until you personally find that you have nothing more to do that is fun(for you) and then...................
YOU PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF UNTIL THE NEXT SPECIAL EVENT/ADDED CONTENT/OR URGE TO PLAY AGAIN HITS.
it is not an MMORPG and it does not require or is intended for constant play.
if all a game is to you is putting in time so eventually by sheer number of hours played you can strut your level 100 character with the sword of pawnz u and the special 1 shot kill anything idol of bushwa around and impress the noobs .........
this is not your (or your friends) game at all.
i remember someone posting the complaint that.........ready for this?
*SOMEONE WHO HAS PLAYED MUCH LESS THAN I HAVE COULD BEAT ME AND BE A FORCE TO BE RECKONNED WITH*

Why, I love GW and I'm bored often...

Why anyone would want to do those things is beyond me.

Lol, if you enjoy that kind of repetitive grind maybe you should invest in WoW. I don't enjoy any of that crap, especially the 7th time through. I too have 2 accounts, and my first is unlocked (well, missing 5 skills, but have the SoCs for them, and if I ever decide I want them I'll get them, or I could buy them with faction.) But the second is just depressing. Doing the same stuff, all over again... it really is dull. This game is quite a grind-fest for a game that is purportedly out to reduce grind. I can roll up anything, finally, in PvP, but due to the PvE goodies that you can't get in PvP I need to make a second account and raise up toons to unlock, and get a primary warrior for example... what a PITA.
You see Alex, your questions aren't fair - I like the skill system, I like the level cap, I like the "skill, not time spent" mentality, I like the instancing, I like the PvvP. I don't like the repetitive questing, the grinding for skillpoints to do unlocks and so on. Heck, I have the skills unlocked for the account, now I have to unlock them at a skill point and a platinum each for my toons as well? Why? In the name of torture? Is GW for me? More than any other game out there, but that doesn't mean I like them trying to marry the PvP and PvE.

Well, glad you enjoy those aspects, but honestly I wish nobody did - then ANet wouldn't have corrupted a great game to please the masses of roleplayers who would likely be happier in a true MMORPG. Unfortunately, it means that those who would play PvP with full unlocks and all gear accessible need to jump through hoops because those who'd be happy in any game essentially have made GW their home.

some times i agree with you sometimes i disagree with you.
this is a total disagree.
if you go waaayyyy back to the very first public trial (graphics curled your hair compared to now) you would have noticed (and Anet said) that PVE would play a strong part in the game.
this was by original design and not something added later that corrupted a pristine pure pvp game.
also note that balancing of skills is done for pvp and not at PVES whim, demand, or benefit

Exactly as I would have put it ~ the game doesnt end at 20, it begins! if you want a game where you win becuase you have a higher level than the other guy go play runescape and leave us intelligent gamers in peace

I just wanted to inform you that you:
1: Whine too much
2: Need to kill yourself
3: Faster
4: Are more annoying than griefers
5: You managed to list 3 ideas that are already in the game, and then add on a lame one...congradulations! That means you fail COMPLETELY!
Now go play your grind games, better yet, TAKE A POWERSANDER TO YOUR FACE. now that is grind.

I have a nice list of games that might interest you, since from your post I can only assume that you aren't the type of player that GW was made for.
Knight Online
Lineage
MU
Rose Online
World of Warcraft
even RuneScape!
Take your pick...all great games

1) Use Search. Basic arguments:
- You'd have ~2280 - 2480 HP if you're level 80-100, and you would be able to deal damage as a warrior with 15-22 swords, 6-28 Axes or 19-35 Hammers...Eles hit for ~500 damage per spell, and monks heal for the same. Mesmers would be able to shut down a monk using Power Block for ~1 minute (if attributes raise at a similar level +5 extra/5 levels), the entire game would require rebalancing.
Add levels without changes? That's what you have now, you only gain bragging rights, and with the exp some monks and warriors have, they would already be at level 100...
2) Nations...as in Luxons and Kurzicks? As in what we get in Chapter 2?
3) Sure, I'll hit you with Eviscerate first, then hit you with a Final Thrust, while the other warrior hits you with a Devastating Hammer followed by nother Final Thrust... You'd think people would notice the balance problems this would give...
4) See 2
5) Nope

I've suggested this before:
If you use a PvE character to buy a skill with Faction, you should get to use the skill in PvE & PvP, but the skill is unlocked for this character only. (doesn't work this way now)
If you use a PvP character to buy a skill with Faction, you should get to use the skill in PvP-only, but the skill is unlocked for the whole account. (this part works this way already)
This makes Faction useful to PvEers, and allows PvPers to build a toon more quickly, less grind, no capping.
Are you grumpy today Epi?

Guild wars is a game that deals more with skill than high level. Those 8 skills that you know how to use really well, might give you the edge of a high-end warrior who doesn't know how to use skills as well.

Also, I can see how you would think PvP sucks in this game if all you've ever played is 4v4. Go get a group of friends or guildies together and play in Heroes' Ascent. You'll think much better of it. PvP there is always changing, though I admit it has been a bit stagnant these past few months.

Doesn't this come up every few weeks? Some fellow complaining about the level cap, moaning that PvP is not fun, and then giving predictions of guild wars dying out in the near future if things are not changed to meet what he wants. Seen it before, sure to see it again, still dead wrong.
I suggest you take up WoW or EQ. You will like them better.
